Project 2025 was created by the far-right think tank, The Heritage Foundation. Their “policy agenda” for the federal government is a blueprint to radically restructure the executive branch. It undercuts our Constitutional values and decades of human rights progress. Even more insidious is its plan to install unprecedented power in the presidency, namely Donald Trump, and eradicate checks on presidential control.
Trump claims he is not connected to Project 2025, and has “no idea who is behind it”. Yet the manifesto was written by 6 of his former secretaries, 4 Trump nominees for ambassadors, several enforcers of his controversial immigration crackdown, his first deputy chief of staff, and many more who served in the Trump administration. In fact, CNN found that 140 people who worked on Project 2025 worked in Trump’s administration.
Early in the blueprint’s development, Trump flew to a conference with now Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts, where he told the audience: “They’re (the Heritage Foundation) going to lay the groundwork and detail plans for exactly what our movement will do.”
Roberts, shortlisted for Trump’s chief of staff should he win 2024, worked on Trump’s 2016 transition team. He took over the Heritage Foundation after the election, while other loyalists went to work in Trump’s administration. Roberts says Heritage’s role is “institutionalizing Trumpism.”
